10 Things to do with your shed

garden sheds
garden sheds Do you have a garden shed rotting away or filled with bits and bobs that you haven’t looked at in years? Or maybe you have just purchased a brand new garden shed from us and need some ideas of what to do with it.  As summer is drawing closer, why not use some of our ideas to create the perfect summer retreat?

1 – Summerhouse

Have you always wanted a summer house to show off to your neighbours? This is the perfect opportunity to do so. If your shed is not large enough you could also knock it down and re-build. Be careful though, if it is too large you might need to obtain planning permission. You could add some beautiful wicker furniture to give it that summer house feel. Connecting it up to electrics would also be wise so you could also use it for those fabulous garden parties and barbeques. It will be fantastic to sit in there with a chilled glass of wine on a warm summer’s day.

2- Gym

If you’re like me and are a little insecure about all those eyes watching you at your local gym, why not make your own? You don’t need a whole lot of space to do this. Just enough to put a running machine and maybe a cross trainer and a few dumbbells. As above, you will need to have electrics but it shouldn’t be too much hassle. To make it feel more like a gym you could fit a TV or a sound system. If you have the space you could install a shower and changing room.

3- Play house

This is one for the kids. When I was younger I always wanted a play house or a den in my garden. It would be a great way to keep you children entertained over the summer holidays. If you’re feeling a little extravagant you can make it almost liveable. It would be great to add a bed so they can camp in the summer, again you would have to add electricity so they can watch TV and hang out with their friends. Adding beanbags and maybe even a slide from the second floor, they will definitely be the envy of all their friends.

4- Office

Are you running out of room in your home and always needing a space for your office? Using your shed to do this is a great way to escape from the madness of your home. You will definitely be able to concentrate if you’re in the garden, away from the noisy children and ever alluring television. If you’re a bit of a workaholic and work from home, this is a great chance for you to be able to enjoy the summer as you can still interact with your family on those warm summer days. Even if you don’t have a big space to work with this can still be done. Just adding a desk, computer and electrics will be efficient enough and will give you enough headspace to begin (or continue) making your millions.

5- Bar

This is my favourite idea by far. What a perfect way this would be to entertain friends and family. Imagine sitting out under the sun with a nice glass of pimms… absolute bliss. I know this might be an expensive thing to do, but if you have the space it would be a great use of your shed.

6- Spa

Have you ever thought about turning your old shed into a secret spa retreat? Redecorating your shed and putting in a sauna or even a Jacuzzi would be appropriate. You could make it into the relaxing space which you have always dreamed of.

7- Book nook

If you love a good book, this would be perfect for you. Walls filled with dusky old books and a quiet place to read; sounds like heaven. It wouldn’t cost a lot either. All you would have to do is out up a few shelves and maybe invest in something comfy to sit on.

8- Studio

Are you running out of space in your home and need a place to focus? Why not transform your shed into a studio for your self. Whether it is dance or art, it would be a great place to really get immersed in your activity.

9- Cinema

A cinema would be a great place to just kick back and relax and watch a good movie. Getting a projector to view your films might be expensive, but it would really give your shed that cinema effect. Why not splash out and buy a popcorn machine and some comfy seating as well?

10 – Games room

If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and entertain friends, a games room would be a perfect opportunity to do so. You could add a pool or snooker table and even a scary shooting game. You could spend hours in this amazing space and your children would love it. Whatever you decide to do make sure you have the right planning permission to do so. Make sure you plan out each room as well as you can and you will end up with the perfect summer retreat. Also when you come to move on it will be a real selling point.
